DESIGN TOUR - A WEEKEND GETAWAY THAT BLENDS INTO THE SITE CONTEXT

Divya Drishti is a Sanskrit term that conveys divine perception through the past and future. A project in a vacation destination would have to be true to its ideals by having architecture enhance the best of what is available by using natural aesthetics as a concept.

Contextual design elements that have influenced the design of the bungalow include the natural slope of the site, topographical elements, and climatic factors. The design of the bungalow was meant to mirror nature .

Each color used on the façade is reminiscent of a natural material. This added contrast to the surrounding while not standing out. Large open spaces on the facades symbolized a sight into the past and future, from where the name of the bungalow was derived.

The client’s requirements included five bedrooms with an entertainment center and a Jacuzzi, in addition to other standard residential spaces. . An applied sciences consultant was hired to ensure the house was fully compliant with feng shui and vastu practices. A water body in front of the house was an outcome of the same .

The ground floor has a spacious living/ dining area, a kitchen, and three bedrooms – of which two have balconies and en suite bathrooms.

The first floor has a pool as per the client requirement, and three bedrooms, of which two of these have a similar pattern of bathrooms and balconies. The bungalow was designed to have at least two windows in all rooms so as to take advantage of views from all major roads that lead to the site.

Landscape patches around the site are maintained to merge parts of the site with the areas around it. The covered car porch allows inhabitants to enter the space without being exposed to the rain. The minimalism of the interiors keeps in line with the theme of spaciousness and luxury. The entry to the jaccuzzi is through a pergola-covered pathway, in keeping in line with the earthy themes. The construction of the bungalow has mostly been done in brick and concrete with some cantilevers. It is best described as a luxurious hillside villa conceptualized from topographical concepts and physiological architecture elements.

The living room is a double height space to give a feeling of grandeur and luxury to the inhabitants. Each interior space has a slight variation on the basic theme which is that of naturalism. The colors are kept similar to give the rooms an earthy atmosphere. Neutral tones with headboards extended into side tables feature as elements of the interior design.
