Restoring and up cycling old furniture or scrap is often strikingly beautiful but is definitely more than just an ongoing trend among the ever increasing eco-conscious society. Many modern and contemporary recycled furniture designs are now made using reclaimed or recycled wood, cloth, paper or metal. Most interesting part about this functional artwork is the combination of original elements that give retired materials a fresh and appealing look the second time around, as old but new furniture designs.
Against the growing need of domestic furniture and products, it is important and necessary to restore the old ones and put it back in demand.
India is a country of huge demand and less supply esspecially in this industry hence restoration will beneficial to a great extent.
The environmental benefits are obvious. The reuse of furnishings prevents perfectly functional, quality goods from being dumped, thus reducing waste to landfill. Natural resources are also conserved as fewer raw materials are needed for the refurbishment process than for the manufacturing of new goods. This process also requires less energy and so the energy incurred in production is reduced.
On the path of making conscious efforts, SM Studio believes and encourages the use of such beautifully handcrafted furniture and products from Jodhpur (India), which is famous for this industry. In two upcoming projects in Mumbai, both of these being pubs, are accessorized using products made of retired materials or up cycled furniture.
